The Tongtai VP Series of heavy duty vertical machining centers is engineered for high-speed mass production.
X, Y, and Z axis travels are 32.3″ x 20″ x 20.1″ (820 mm x 508 mm x 510 mm) for the VP-8 machine, and 40.2″ x 20.1″ x 23.6″ (1021 mm x 510 mm x 600 mm) for the larger VP-10. Heavy Meehanite FC-30 castings provide rigidity and the machines’ triangulated design provides a rigid and stable machining platform.
The two machines feature 35mm (1.37″) linear ways on all axes. Rugged 36mm (1.4″) diameter pre-tensioned ballscrews direct-coupled to high power servo motors produce 1,890 ipm (48 m/min) rapids in the X and Y axes and 1,417 ipm (36 m/min) in the Z-axis. Acceleration in X, Y, and Z is 1.18G, 1.0G, 0.7G respectively.
The standard 10,000 rpm, 20 hp direct drive spindle features a dual contact (Big Plus) 40 taper and is oil cooled for thermal stability. High/low switch gear provides an adjustable range of power and torque. The machines’ 70mm (2.75″)-dia. spindle shaft has six bearings for to maximize stiffness and cutting stability.
A standard 24-tool (30 tools optional) high-speed synchronous arm-type automatic tool changer provides 2.0-second tool changes with average chip to chip time of 3.6 seconds. Standard twin-screw chip conveyors remove chips from the machining area and discharge them at the rear of the machine, where a standard caterpillar lift-up style chip conveyor carries them to a hopper.
The machines are prepared for high pressure through-spindle coolant and 300 psi or 1,000 psi coolant pumps are optional.
The standard Mitsubishi M80A control features a 10.4″ (265 mm) touch screen engineered for intuitive operation. A high response servo system with 1,000,000 pulse encoders provides high speed and consistent accuracy.
