Tongtai TMV and QVM 30 and 40 taper vertical milling & tapping centers employ a traveling column type design with a stationary worktable. A front-mounted built-in rotary type automatic pallet changer exchanges the fixed tables in less than 5 seconds. A hydraulic motor rotates the pallets and a hydraulic clamping mechanism clamps the pallet in place for excellent repeatability. The center port of the changer unit is pre-plumbed for hydraulic or pneumatic fixturing.
Axis travels for the TMV-510T are 20″ x 14.2″ x 17″ (500 mm x 360 mm x 430 mm) in X,Y, and Z, and table size is 23.6″ x 13.6″ (600 mm x 345 mm). For the QVM-610A-II, travels are 24″ x 16.1″ x 18.1″ (610 mm x 409 mm x 460 mm) and table size 28″ x 16.1″ (711 mm x 409 mm).
The machines feature Meehanite cast iron frames and linear slideways. The TMV-510T has 32mm (1.25″)-dia. Class 3 ballscrews with a double nut pre-loaded design that permits a standard rapid traverse rate of 1,575 ipm (40 m/min) in the X and Y axes and 1,890 ipm (48 m/min) in Z. The 36mm (1.42″)-dia. Class 3 ballscrews on the QVM-610A-II permit a standard rapid traverse rate of 1,417 ipm (36 m/min) in X and Y and 1,181 ipm (30 m/min) in Z. The machines’ ABS (Absolute Pulse Coder) servo system does not require zero return and enables the machine to be started from any position. A standard screw type chip conveyor provides efficient chip removal.
A standard high speed arm type automatic tool changer on the TMV-510T achieves tool change time of 0.8 seconds and 1.9 seconds chip to chip, while the QVM change time is 1.6 seconds and 4.2 seconds chip to chip. The standard 30-taper 12,000 rpm spindle on the TMV-510T provides rigid tap speeds up to 4,000 RPM. Optional 15,000 rpm and 20,000 rpm Fanuc DDS spindles deliver faster acceleration and deceleration times and higher rigid tap speeds for aluminum/magnesium parts machining. The BBT-30 (Big Plus dual contact spindle) is standard for optimum tooling rigidity. The QVM-610A-II’s standard 40 taper 10,000 rpm liquid-cooled 20 hp spindle provides milling capability and rigid tap speeds up to 4,000 rpm.
The Fanuc OiM-F control is suitable for high production machining.
