The seven-machine series of Tongtai TNL series multitasking turning centers feature a rigid vertical (90˚) bed design and offer a wide range of options regarding capabilities. To maximize rigidity and precision, the machines are cast from Meehanite iron.
Machine chuck sizes range from 6″ (152 mm) to 12″ (304 mm), bar capacities from 1.5″(38 mm) to 3″(76.2 mm), and Z axis travels from 16″(152 mm) to 24″(609 mm). Swing over the bed is 15.7″ (398 mm) and 12.2″ (309 mm) over the cross slide. Machine spindles are 3,500 or 4,500 rpm and have 15 or 20 hp. The standard 12 station BMT-60 turret is servo driven.
The vertical bed permits chips to flow directly into the chip conveyor and also provides easy access to the spindles and turret. The vertical configuration also positions the X- and optional Y-axes perpendicular to each other, improving accuracy and simplifying programming.
The machine bed is a one-piece monoblock casting for strength and overall machining accuracy. To maximize precision and thermal stability, the headstock, tailstock, and saddle all are mounted on the same plane. The coolant tank is separate from the machine base to prevent heat transfer from the coolant to the machine casting. To further ensure accuracy and precision, the double nut type ballscrews are pre-tensioned to eliminate thermal growth. Linear guides are standard. Options include box ways, C-axis live tools, and Y-axis and sub-spindle capabilities.
The machines can be custom-tailored to fit specific production requirements via a variety of options including radial and axial live tool heads, a barfeed interface, part probes, tool presetter, and high-pressure coolant capability.
